Završena online radionica filmske kritike: Enigmatične slike sa Jean-Michelom Frodonom

Završena je online Radionica filmske kritike pod mentorstvom istaknutog francuskog novinara, urednika, kritičara i pisca Jean-Michela Frodona. Radionica se održavala od 24. 04. do 30. 04. u organizaciji Kino kluba Split. Sedmero polaznika iz četiri različita grada – Splita, Zagreba, Pariza i Londona slušalo je vrijedna izlaganja o praksama filmske kritike, a zatim su slijedili precizne smjernice pišući vlastite osvrte na četiri zadana filma: Vertigo (1958) Alfreda Hitchcocka, Markiza O (1976) Erica Rohmera, Svjetlost (1987) Souleimanea Cisséa i Persona (1966) Ingmara Bergmana. Napisani tekstovi diskutirani su grupno i individualno te je radionica finalno rezultirala s ukupno dvadesetosam pisanih vježbi.

Po završetku intenzivnog programa polaznici su podijelili svoje impresije: Erik Lončar pozitivno iznenađen ishodom radionice, osvijestio je novi stil pisanja u filmskoj kritici: „Gospodin Frodon ne samo da je bio od velike pomoći i strpljiv s našim radom i pitanjima, već je i otvorio vrata koja se možda više nikad neće zatvoriti. Uživao sam u svakoj minuti i šteta je što smo se morali rastati.“ Jelena Franušić navodi radionicu kao izvrsno iskustvo „čula sam puno toga po prvi put i Jean-Michel je bio vrlo uspješan u objašnjavanju mnogih važnih koncepata u procesu pisanja. Njegovi komentari na naš rad su bili vrlo konstruktivni i korisni. Sada, kad je sve završilo, mogu reći da još više volim filmove.“ Meghanne Barker također ističe radionicu kao izvrsno iskustvo koje joj je pomoglo da nauči gledati filmove na drugačiji način, izoštravajući vlastitu pažnju u iščekivanju pisanja o njima, te kako sam proces pisanja o filmovima može povećati ili transformirati vlastito razumijevanje filmova. „Bilo je zadovoljstvo raditi sa svim sudionicima čije je pisanje osvijetlilo one elemente u filmovima koje sam sama propustila uočiti.“, ističe. „Stručno i iskustveno znanje koje je g. Frodon podijelio s nama i na nenametljiv način uveo nas u svijet filmske kritike otvorilo mi je um i osvježilo pogled na filmsku umjetnost.“ kaže Andrea Remetin

Sam voditelj, Jean-Michel Frodon vrlo je sretan zbog mogućnosti vođenja ovakve radionice: „(…) želim pozdraviti sjajan rad Kino kluba Split. Uživao sam u radionici i vjerujem da je dobro prošla za sve sudionike, uključujući i mene. Ali više volim biti fizički prisutan, susresti ljude, voditi „male“ razgovore (ili ne tako male) uz šalicu kave ili čašu vina. Predavanja online (kojih imam poprilično za vrijeme Covid krize) mnogo su napornija od predavanja in presentia. I, što je još važnije, zaista želim da oni koji pohađaju moje radionice mogu pogledati filmove o kojima pišemo u pristojnim uvjetima, s projekcijom na velikom platnu.“

Veselimo se budućim radionicama sličnog koncepta, budući je ovaj tip praktičnog rada uz dragocjenu povratnu informaciju mentora iznimno poticajno iskustvo za svakoga tko se bavi pisanjem filmske kritike, ali i pisanjem općenito.

Odabir filmova bio je usklađen s ovogodišnjom programskom cjelinom zajedničkog naziva Enigmatične slike, a gostovanje Jean-Michel Frodona treće je u nizu nakon Večeri filmske analize s Jonathanom Rosenbaumom koje su održane krajem siječnja te prve online Radionice kinematografije Freda Kelemena sredinom travnja.

Rad Kino kluba Split financiraju Zaklada Kultura nova, Hrvatski audiovizualni centar i Grad Split. Voditeljica programa je Sunčica Fradelić.  

Finished: online film criticism workshop “Enigmatic images” with Jean-Michel Frodon

An online film criticism workshop mentored by the renowned French journalist, editor, critic and writer Jean-Michel Frodon is finished. It took place between April 24th and April 30th, and was organized by the Cine Club Split. Seven participants from 4 different cities (Split, Zagreb, Paris, London) listened to valuable lectures on film criticism practices, writing their own reviews on 4 films: Vertigo (1958) by Alfred Hitchcock, The Marquise of O (1976) by Eric Rohmer, Yeelen (1987) by Souleymane Cissé and Persona (1966) by Ingmar Bergman. Their reviews were discussed individually and in groups, so the workshop finally produced 28 written exercises.

Having finished this intense program, participants shared their impressions: Erik Lončar was positively surprised with the workshop’s results and he discovered a new style of writing about film: “Mister Frodon was not only very helpful and patient with out work and questions, but he also opened a door that might never be closed. I enjoyed every minute of it and it’s a shame that we had do say goodbye.” Jelena Franušić sees the workshop as a great experience: “I’ve learned a lot of things for the first time and Jean-Michel was very successful at explaining important concepts related to the writing process. His commentary on our work was very constructive and useful. Now that everything’s finished, I can say that I love movies even more.” Meghanne Barker also highlights the workshop as a wonderful experience which helped her watch movies from another perspective, sharpening her attention in anticipation to write about them. She also learned that the process of writing about film can enhance or transform your own understanding of film. “It was a pleasure working with all of the participants whose writing illuminated elements of each film that I had missed”, she notices. “The professional knowledge and experience which mister Frodon shared with us, taking us subtly into the world of film criticism, opened my mind and refreshed my perception of film art”, Andrea Remetin added.

Jean-Michel Frodon, the mentor himself, was delighted about the opportunity to have this kind of workshop: “(…) I want to salute the great work Cine Club Split is doing. I enjoyed doing it and I believe it went well for all participants, including myself. But I do prefer being there physically, meeting people, having small talks (or not so small) around a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Online teaching (which I practice a lot during the COVID crisis) is much more tiring than teaching in presentia. And, even more important, I really wish that those who attend my workshops are able to explore the films we talk about and watch them in decent conditions, on a large screen with a projector.”

We are looking forward to new workshops with a similar concept, since this type of practical work with the precious feedback from the mentor is an exceptionally motivating experience for anyone who is writing film reviews, or writing in general.

The choice of movies was compatible with this year’s program theme “Enigmatic Images” and Jean-Michel Frodon’s lecture is the third part of the program, following the film analysis evening with Jonathan Rosenbaum in January and the first online Cinematography workshop with Fred Kelemen in mid-April.
